Asia Rugby 7s: India storm into semifinals

Host India, last year’s runners-up China, Hong Kong and Thailand entered semifinals of the 3rd Asia Rugby Sevens U-18 Girls Championship here at Kalinga Stadium today. In the quarterfinals, India outplayed Qatar 31-0, China destroyed Philippines 56-0, Thailand thrashed UAE 36-7 and Hong Kong humbled Sri Lanka 51-0.

India reached quarterfinals by winning all three of their league matches in Pool B. They followed their 22-5 win over UAE earlier on the opening day with two more today. India demolished Bangladesh 89-0, the biggest of the championship, and Sri Lanka 24-15.

Sweety Kumari was the star of India’s wins, displaying electrifying runs and attractive skills. She notched up most of the tries for India. In the semifinals, India will meet Thailand tomorrow.
